Germain Castellanos

Chief Executive Officer

Germain has been with Boys & Girls Club of Lake County since June 2022 and became CEO in November of 2023. He started at the Club as the Development Director and transitioned into COO soon afterwards. He is committed to ensuring equity, access, and opportunities for all young people and families in Lake County where he oversees eight Clubs serving over 800 children per year. In his role, he leads an ambitious strategic plan to increase the organization's impact and the number of children helped through BGCLC's critical after-school programs through building new, impactful programming, deepening our partnerships and collaborations, and positioning BGCLC as the leading youth development organization in the region.



Germain's roots are deeply intertwined with the Lake County community, having grown up in the same neighborhood as our Genesee site. Today, he is not only serving but also raising his own family in Waukegan, a testament to his profound understanding of the needs of the students we are privileged to serve.



Prior to joining BGCLC, he served as Executive Director of Beacon Place, overseeing operations, programming, fundraising, special events, and community relations. He has been a leader and changemaker within the Waukegan community for the past 18 years in various roles, including Nonprofit Board Member, Library Trustee, Community Organizer, Educator, Mentor, and Program Director. He led the SHINE program at Waukegan High School and was recognized by the White House in 2014 for being a "Champion of Change" in his community.


Germain holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from DePaul University. He is Bilingual (English/Spanish).


JP Arangure

Director of Programs and Impact

JP has been a part of the BGCLC team since August 2023. In his role, he spearheads the development, planning, and evaluation of our youth development programs, leveraging the power of data to ensure the highest standards of program excellence across all BGCLC sites.


JP brings a wealth of experience, spanning over 15 years of dedicated service working with youth and young adults from a diverse array of communities and age groups. His career journey has been a tapestry of roles that have molded him into the dynamic professional he is today. From being a High School Coach and a PE Teacher Assistant to serving as an Afterschool Program Associate, Building Substitute Teacher, Community School Coordinator, Case Worker, and ultimately a Director, JP's trajectory reflects a profound commitment to nurturing young lives.


JP holds a Professional Master of Art in Social Innovation, Community Organizing and Education and a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies, Education Leadership both from Grand Valley State University. He also earned a DEI Foundations & Inclusive Workplace Certificate from Miami University (OH).


Krystina Briones

Chief of Staff

Krystina joined our team in March 2024. As the Chief of Staff, she will be a critical part of the team orchestrating strategic initiatives and fostering operational excellence, ensuring that BGCLC operates seamlessly in fulfilling mission-driven goals. Additionally, Krystina will champion the development of policies that uphold ethical practices and support staff well-being.

 

Krystina most recently spearheaded efforts to bolster student success at Waukegan to College, where she fostered collaboration among diverse stakeholders and aided in program expansion. Before that, she was based in Oakland, CA, overseeing college and career programs for various Bay Area nonprofits.

 

As a native of Lake County, Illinois, daughter of Mexican parents, and a first-generation college graduate, Krystina is driven by a sense of purpose and a desire to make a difference in under-resourced communities. She is passionate about leveraging expertise to drive organizational success and create meaningful impact.

 

Krystina holds a BS in Psychology and Latina/Latino Studies from the University of Illinois.


Noha Mahmoud

Director of Program Development

Noha joined BGCLC in August 2023. As the Director of Program Development, she collaborates closely with site coordinators and program assistants, conducting site observations and providing essential training and support. 


Her passion lies in creating an enriching after-school experience for children at BGCLC, aiming to transform their time into unforgettable memories while nurturing their academic growth. She is committed to fostering an environment where kids excel academically and have fun, laying the foundation for a flourishing future.


Beyond the classroom, Noha actively contributed to non-profit organizations in Canada for over eight years, focusing on aiding refugees in settlement processes, facilitating language translations, and expediting their integration into new homes. Over 15 years, her journey in education has taken her across the globe, teaching in diverse environments, including Japan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Canada, and the United States.


Noha holds a bachelor’s degree in science and a Master of Professional Education from Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. She is furthering her qualifications by pursuing National Board certification for Certified Teachers.


Tania Surane

Director of Development & Communications

Tania has been a part of the team since  April 2023. At BGCLC, she spearheads the development and communications strategy by leveraging partnerships, sponsorships, strategic campaigns, and special events.


Tania brings over 20 years of corporate communications and nonprofit marketing and development experience to the organization. After spending the first few years of her career at AT&T and then taking a small break to raise her children, Tania discovered her passion for helping nonprofits fulfill their missions. She has helped raise almost $1M for grassroots organizations through creating community and gaining new supporters via impact storytelling, creative ideas, and people-focused strategies at agencies including the U.S. Adaptive Golf Alliance, Beacon Place, Riverside Foundation, and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary.


She currently serves on the Riverside Foundation Women’s Board.


She has an MBA from Loyola University of Chicago and Bachelor's degree in Business from Northwestern State University. She is Bilingual (English/Spanish).
